Audition Information
Jazz Band is the only ensemble at Lakeridge that requires an audition.
Jazz Band Auditions Information: 2019/2020 School Year
WHEN?
Mar. 5, 6, 7, OR 8 (Sign up for one time slot posted on the band room door).
During FLEX
(If you can’t audition during FLEX, talk to Mrs. Taylor about other audition times before or after school.)
Auditions will be on a first come first serve basis. You will audition on one of these four dates (whichever date works the best for you). Don’t wait until the last day.
WHERE?
Band Room (Rm. 148)
WHAT DO I PLAY? (Pick up the audition material from Mrs. Taylor)
2. Perform the selection from "On the Street Where You Live" with the recording.
*Listen to/Practice with the recording: Click this link to hear the recording.
*Don’t show up to the audition without listening to the recording SEVERAL TIMES!
* Listening to jazz music and emulating the style is an important part of playing jazz.
3. Drum set only
In addition to the previous two requirements, demonstrate your ability to play the following styles:
a. Swing
b. Rock/Funk
c. Latin (Cha Cha or Samba or Afro-Cuban Groove)
Positions available in the Jazz Band
Trumpet Alto Sax Baritone Sax Auxiliary Percussion:
Trombone Tenor Sax Drum Set (vibes, congas, etc.)
Bass Guitar Piano
ADDITIONAL INFO
*Jazz Band is a class during the regular school day.
*It is a requirement to enroll in Concert Band or Symphonic Band in addition to Jazz Band. (Drum set & Auxiliary Percussion are required to take the Percussion Ensemble class. Bass Players are not required to participate in a 2nd band class.)
*Mrs. Taylor reserves the right to omit any instrument from the band due to unpreparedness.
*ALL students must audition for the Jazz Band (even if you were in the Jazz Band the previous year).

- Concert Eb Major Scale
- Concert F Major Scale
